Multiplo presents Creating Heavens, a solo show by Chiara Bugatti in which she collects her recent works and an installation expressly realized for the space. The exhibition introduces an emotional and conceptual analysis of the landscape, particularly through the dynamics of verticality, of maps and of architectural elements.
Creating Heavens is born out of the concept of scale and the dimensional connection which compares each image or map with the fragment of reality represented. In particular, the images chosen by Bugatti (for example, the analysis of the smallest weave of some tissues, or satellite views of the earth in the moments before a hurricane) combine micro and macro surfaces – if considered by a human reference point – by which the spectator is kept in check as if he was in a situation of spleen and evaluative impotence. The concision of the representation, in which each real element becomes another through a change of parameter, renders such images full of pathos, so as to approach them to the sense of sublime aroused by natural phenomena. In such a similar way, the abstract and non-figurative nature of maps, and the possibility of making conjectures thanks to interpolations and extrapolations beyond the given data, not only make them a technically efficient apparatus, but also a visually intriguing device provided with a strong aniconic imaginative charge.
Architecture and its basic constituencies are the other pole to which the show is built. Through the use of simple geometric structures, Chiara Bugatti divides the volume of the room with big-dimensioned and transparent works, so to let the look not be stopped. Through the use of glass, incised tissues and printed polyester films, the artist gets – with a light sculptural effect – further chiaroscuro levels which invite the observer to interact by moving dynamically through the space. Similarly, the main window pointing the street will appear modified, veiled by a semi-transparent cloud, an original amnion which changes the perception of the place both to the visitor and the casual passer-by.
Artist's book conceived and published on the occasion of the exhibition. The book features images and texts from Chiara Bugatti, as well as citations and contributions from other artists.

Chiara Bugatti was born in Lecco in 1991. She got a degree at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice, and she’s now attending the Master of Fine Arts at the School of Fine Arts of Umeå (S). Her works arises from the analysis of the situation of the man as an individual, corporeal and emotional being, inside the physical and the social space. Fascinated by the holographic nature of reality, by the repetition of phenomena and the observation of events in the micro and the macro world, Bugatti examines the modalities of relation and knowledge made possible by two-dimensional representations and images, essential parts of the contemporary landscape by now.
